All Sizes

Out of the box, the Mini Riser supports most all sizes of laptops. However, if needed, you can adjust the width and bumpers to support smaller/larger laptops. (PIC 1-1)

Netbook

Netbooks usually do not have heat issues, but a Mini Riser is still nice to prop up the keyboard to a more comfortable angle. (PIC 1-2)

Air Gap

The Mini Riser's arch puts 1.8 inches (4.6 cm) of air under the laptop giving it plenty of room to dissipate heat. (PIC 1-3)

Span

The Mini Riser has a 4.7 inch (11.9 cm) span that supports a wide range of laptops. The vinyl bumpers hold the laptop firmly in place, and the weight is distributed evenly amongst the three contact points on the table. Simple. (PIC 1-4)

Keyboard

We have a few friends that are in the "1-to-2-finger-hunt-and-peck" class of keyboarders. When the keyboard is flat on the table, they constantly shift their head position to see what they are typing and what they typed. I had them prop up a keyboard with a Mini Riser so they only have to shift their eyes, not their head. Much easier.

If the table surface is slick, the keyboard will need to be stabilized along the bottom edge. Here are some ideas:

  • Wedge a foam wrist rest along the bottom edge of the keyboard.
  • Stick some low-profile, adhesive-backed bumpers on the bottom edge of the keyboard so it grips the table. (Typically found at hardware stores.)
  • Get some 1/2 inch clear, vinyl tubing and cut a 1 inch section. Then cut the section in half, long-ways, forming 2, long, C sections. Tape each section to the bottom edge of the keyboard using double-stick foam tape (or similar).

Important: I would only consider this for those "1-to-2-finger-hunt-and-peck" users. This would be inappropriate for touch-typist since it would force your wrists to be at a sharp angle. (PIC 1-5)

Clamshell

We tested the Mini Riser on a wide range of laptops, old and new. The original "clamshell" ibooks have a very odd-shaped, large, wide frame. The Mini Riser keeps it nice and stable without any adjustments. Oh, and the Orange Mini Riser was a perfect match for it. :) . (PIC 1-6)

Textbook

The Mini Riser doesn't just do laptops. For instance, it works nicely propping up hardbound books such as textbooks and cookbooks to a more comfortable reading angle. It'll also help your book dodge the occasional beer/coffee/tea/pop spill. Been there, done that...more than I care to admit.. (PIC 1-7)

16 Pounds

16 pounds (7.3 kg)! That's how much the Mac Portable weighed, and the Mini Riser has no problem supporting it. Now, getting OS X on this Mac...that's a problem. (PIC 1-8)
