OVERVIEW OF THE CONCEPT:

You may need to see the movie Cast Away for this to have a deeper, more significant meaning.

During quarantine early 2020 I was pacing in the lab discussing a tricky engineering issue with "Bob":

After a heated debate with him, I paused for a moment and took inventory on what was actually going on here. Instantly, "Cast Away" popped in my head and the idea evolved from there.

When I first came up with this idea, I visualized putting them on custom 3D printed stands since there is nothing worse for one's mental health to have the "head" you're talking to suddenly roll off the shelf Marie Antoinette style. You could offer printed stands in various colors and styles. It can be something as simple as this:

And since no one was there to stop me, I speculated printable arms, legs, hair/hats that are stuck on with removable adhesive tape. Probably going too far, but you never know. It really depends on the character/subject. Something to think about.

Notes on Getting Started:

  1. The simplest/fastest way to get started is to sign up for a print on demand merchant that prints on sports balls like Zazzle
  2. Alternatively, you could work with a custom printed ball manufacturer, print a batch of your own, and offer them in places like Amazon/Etsy. Some searches to get you moving:
    1. Volleyballs
    2. Soccer Balls
    3. Basketballs
  3. If you are not artistically-inclined, try browsing the public domain images at freesvg.org for images you can modify to fit your needs.
