Using Big Score

Using the Big Score is about as easy as eating bread (unless you don't like bread or take really, really big bites). However, reviewing the proper placement, support, and scoring will help you get the most out of your new tool.

Be aware that safety is your responsibility.

Precautions

Some precautions you should be aware of:

  • Don’t bend or stress. The Big Score tool is made from acrylic which may break into sharp pieces if bent or placed under severe stress.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. Due to to risk of breakage and injury if inappropriately handled, the Big Score tool is only intended for responsible adult humans.
  • Do not clean with chemicals. Isopropyl Alcohol and other cleaners will damage your Big Score
  • Do not clean with paper products. Paper towels, tissues, and similar will scratch the surface of your Big Score.

Using

(1) Position
The Big Score has both a thick and a thin side. The thick side is for holding the tool on your artwork, and the thin side is for scoring. (PIC 1-1) Position the thin side where you'd like to score. You can use either the outside edge or inside edge. (PIC 1-2) Use a bright, direct, light source shining at an angle into the inside of the score edge. This will make it easy to see your alignment. (PIC 1-3)

(2) Hold
Apply firm pressure with one hand along the thick edge to keep it in place. (PIC 1-4)

(3) Score
Place your scoring tool along the edge (we like to use the back edge of a hobby knife). (PIC 1-5) Apply a moderate amount of pressure downward and drag the score line. (PIC 1-6) If the Big Score shifts or distorts while scoring, you are applying too much lateral pressure against the score edge. You only need light, lateral pressure to guide your scoring tool. Care

Cutting
We do not recommend using the Big Score as a guide for cutting. With care, it can be done; however, be aware that it’s possible the cutting tool may nick the guide causing permanent damage.

Storing
To prevent scratches, store the Big Score in the reclosable plastic bag it came in.

Cleaning
Clean the Big Score with a clean, soft cloth (microfiber, terry, etc). Moistening the cloth with a little water and mild soap (if necessary) helps. Do not use paper towels or tissue since they will scratch the acrylic. Never use Isopropyl Alcohol, or other cleaners unless specifically designed to clean acrylic.
