The only reason we recommend this is because it reduces the chance that the adhesive on the hub will give out over time and pop off the washer. Truth is, we tend to remove disc mounts from time to time using the hub...it’s easier to grab. In fact, we sometimes grab the CD while it is on the mount, pull the whole works off the display, pop the mount off the CD, and stick the mount back to the display. We haven’t had any foam hubs pop off yet...The adhesive is very strong.
